What actually is Diwali?
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is the festival of lights. It is celebrated by millions of people all over the world but more commonly celebrated by members of the Sikh and Hindu religions. This year, in the UK, Diwali will be held on the 11th of November and will last until November the 13th.
“The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance”
When celebrating the festival, many people decorate their houses, shops, offices and local areas with small candles known as Diyas which transform their homes and create beautiful and colourful settings, but they don’t stop there! You will be able to find families wearing their finest clothes and best jewellery whilst sharing sweet and savoury snacks, lighting various other candles and sparklers!
A stunningly beautiful country with incredible sights and landmarks is a definite bucket list must have! A flight from London to Mumbai will typically take you around 9 hours but once there you have the opportunity to go to a massive amount of different attractions; The Himilayas, The Golden Triangle, The River Ganges and of course The Taj Mahal.
