Social Media & Marketing Apprentice

National Apprenticeship Awards

I have developed and discovered a variety of different skills and seen many personal benefits. From my graphic design work and charity fundraising to the email marketing campaigns and social media optimisation I have carried out.

Since I have been a Social Media and Marketing Apprentice with The Travel Visa Company, I have seen my knowledge increase massively, gaining an in-depth knowledge about:

  • Social Media Campaigning
  • HTML / CSS
  • SEO & SEM
  • Collaborative Software
  • Email Marketing
  • Keyword Optimisation
  • Location Aware Content
  • Web and Social Media Analytics
  • Google Adwords
  • Blogging
  • Digital Legislation
  • CRM Systems
  • Graphic and Web Design
  • Stock Control
  • Mobile Optimisation
  • Data Analysis

However, my learning didn’t just come from studying for my level 3 diploma. Working as part of a busy team has allowed me to grow and develop many skills. Being part of weekly meetings within the organisation, as well as arranging and attending meetings with clients and dealing with customers, has boosted my confidence. This has given me the ability to act and conduct myself in a professional manner.

One of my biggest achievements has been designing and creating my first website: ‘coverworks.com’. Seeing the results of my work and learning coming together into one project is an incredibly rewarding feeling especially as prior to my apprenticeship, I had no knowledge about how websites work. I believe that this shows the opportunities that being part of an apprenticeship scheme in a growing business can bring.

You don’t just learn from reading text books and sitting exams, practical experience brings with it new ways to gain knowledge.

While working for The Travel Visa Company I took part in my first ever organised run – The Great Manchester Run. With the support of my friends, family and colleagues, I was able to raise £360.00 and complete the run with a time of 01:00:17.

Around The World In 24 Hours

This year we have chosen to support The Family Holiday Association.

The Family Holiday Association is the only national charity dedicated to providing British seaside breaks and day trips for families struggling with some of the toughest challenges life can bring.

To celebrate our new relationship with FHA, we have pledged to raise £500 which will be raised through our latest (and greatest) charity event:

Around the world in 24 hours!

atw

On the 20th of July, Team Travel Visa will be carrying out a 24 hour non-stop cycle around the world! We have arranged for an Exercise bike to be set-up in the office, which has been kindly donated by the very generous people at STUDIO 4ORCE Personal Training, and we will be cycling the equivalent of 250 Miles / 400 Kilometres.

Visit our JustGiving Page to donate >

Now, obviously, to cycle around the world is a mammoth job! Especially in under 24 hours. Fortunately for us, our crack team of mathematicians have calculated a formula that will help us to achieve this goal!

So for each mile we clock on an exercise bike it will be 100 miles on the map. The circumference of the Earth is almost 25,000 miles (meaning we will need to cycle 250 miles).

We have given ourselves 24 hours to cycle around the world, but we hope to finish the cycle in 22 hours (if all goes to plan). The event will take place from 3pm on Wednesday the 20th and will continue into the night and through to the morning, with an estimated completion time of 1pm.

The Family Holiday Association is a charity that we, as a business, are passionate about and we are very excited to be able to raise money for a cause that we care so much about.

To donate to this chairty which really is close to our hearts, simply go to our JustGiving page.

Throughout the cycle we will be constantly updating our social media accounts so keep an eye out!

How will Brexit affect the future of travel?

As you probably already know, Britain has voted to leave the EU. Aside from the many different views and opinions on this controversial topic, we would like to talk about how this has, and could, affect the future of travel.

After the final results of the referendum, there are a few common questions many of the general public have about the future of travel, such as:

  • Will  the price of holidays increase?
  • Will I need a new passport / driving license after we leave the EU?
  • Will I require a visa to travel European countries?
  • What happens to my European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)?

As with almost everything related to the decision to leave the EU, it is not clear how things will proceed and it is still unclear exactly what sort of relationship Britain will be able to strike with the European Union. And so, therefore, it is uncertain as to what will actually happen regarding travel to the EU.

What we do know is that:

  • There are no immediate changes to claiming compensation if your flight is delayed or cancelled.
  • You can still bring home unlimited goods from duty free.
  • There are no immediate changes to using your phone abroad.
  • You can still use your European Health Insurance Card card abroad.
  • It is likely that British Citizens will (at some point) need brand new passports as the front cover currently features the words “European Union”.
  • It is also likely that we will (at some point) need brand new driving licenses as this has the European flag featured on it.

The UK Government will need to implement new laws for each of the above after we leave the EU. The only immediate impact to travel could be from the value of the pound.

ABTA has released this statement on the result of the EU Referendum –

The Prime Minister has stated that there will be no initial change in the way people travel. Travellers are as free to move between the UK and the EU as they were yesterday, European Health Insurance cards remain valid and regulations such as Air Passenger Rights remain in place. People due to travel this summer will see little changes to their holiday.

Once the UK formally notifies the EU of its intention to leave, the remaining Member States will have up to two years to offer the UK a deal for a future trading relationship and during this period holidaymakers will not see any immediate changes.

However, the fall in value of the pound will have an immediate impact on holidaymakers and their spending power overseas.

ABTA is the UK’s largest travel association, representing travel agents and tour operators.

For further queries or questions, you can visit ABTA’s FAQ page of their website here.

Rio 2016 Travel Requirements

  • You must satisfy the Federal Police (the Brazilian immigration authority) of your intended purpose of visit.
  • You will need to show that you have enough money for the duration of your stay.
  • Provide details of your accommodation and evidence of return or further onward travel.
  • Your passport should be stamped. If it is not, you may be fined on departure. Keep your immigration landing card. You will need it when you leave. If you lose it you may also be fined.

Information from www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/brazil/entry-requirements.gov.uk

The British Government have also released a useful guide to help you ‘stay ahead of the games’. It gives you advices and information about travel insurance, when is best to book, vaccinations, languages and more! You can download it here.

Other Nationalities

It comes as no surprise that the Rio Olympics are going to bring in a huge amount of foreign visitors, and so, the Brazilian Government are making it as easy (and as safe) as possible for travellers to enter Brazil. That is why they have introduced a temporary Visa Waiver Program (until the 18th of September 2016).

Australian, Canadian, Japanese and US nationals will not require a tourist visa to enter Brazil. Instead, they will be eligible for a 90 day, non-extendable, visa waiver.

*Note: you do not have to be attending the Olympic Games to take advantage of the new travel requirements.

If you want to check visa requirements of any other nationalities then, you can download this document (Entry Visas To Brazil PDF).

Easter

Easter celebrations begin with Good Friday (the day that Jesus Christ was crucified). Traditionally, this day involves the attendance of Mass in the afternoon and a day of fasting. Christians will have only one meal throughout the whole day, and this will usually be a fish dish as meat should not be eaten on Good Friday.

This is then followed by Easter Sunday which takes place on the last Sunday of March. This was the day Jesus was resurrected after his crucifixion. Most commonly, the day is celebrated with the giving and receiving of sweet treats and candies, for example: Chocolate Easter Eggs. As well as this, you will find people taking part in Easter egg hunts, Sunday church service and Easter Sunday roast dinners.

Where to spend Easter?

As Easter brings with it two bank holidays, the perfect way to spend it would be an extra long, relaxing, weekend away! By this we mean, it would be best not travelling half way around the world and spending an entire day travelling… instead: A couple hours on a plane, car or ferry to arrive at your chosen destinations is exactly what the doctor ordered!

Here are some Ideas for a much needed European getaway:

Istanbul, Turkey

The only city in the world that encompasses both Asia and Europe
